Laos' Rubber Exports To China May Increase Year After Year

- Jul 23, 2020-

The total rubber exports of Laos have continued to grow in the past three years. In 2019, the total rubber exports of Laos reached US$217.5 million (the total rubber exports in 2018 and 2017 were US$168 million and US$153 million respectively), of which US$119.9 million was exported to Vietnam, US$96.66 million in rubber exports to China. As a major importer of rubber from Laos, China's imports are also currently increasing.

It is understood that China's imports from Laos amounted to US$2.16 billion, an increase of 7.0% year-on-year; China had ordered 10,000 tons of rubber from Laos in 2017; under the 2020 epidemic, China has already ordered 20,000 tons of rubber from Laos. It has not affected the trade between China and Laos. At present, the rubber plantation area in Laos is nearly 300,000 hectares, and it is continuously increasing; the supply of natural rubber is sufficient to provide strong support for rubber exports. As the second largest rubber exporter in Laos, China may increase its natural rubber imports in Laos in the future. Increase year after year.
